The Huntsville Grotto is hosting a NSS convention pre-camp June 26th-29th at the NSS headquarters. There are both indoor rooms and outside camping available, and showers available for $5 a day(paid to the NSS). You will have to sign an NSS waiver to stay, and they will be provided when you arrive. There will be horizontal and vertical trips available, both guided and self guided(we will help you with the logistics). We will have our monthly grotto meeting the evening of the 26th, and will have a potluck dinner on Friday night the 28th. There will be no fee to attend the pre-camp (other than for the showers).
The Huntsville Alabama area is known for its amazing caves, both horizontal and vertical! Famous horizontal caves like the SCCi's Tumbling rock and Limrock caves, the NSS Shelta cave, and private owned caves like Guffey cave will be available.
Then there are the tag classic pits! The SCCI's Never sink, Valhalla, Balcony sink, and Stephen's gap are all extremely close. Pits like Natural Well, Pretty Well, and Greens well are accessable as well. And who could forget about Surprise pit, Alabama's deepest pit at an amazing 437'. There are also plenty of wet multi-drop caves as well, like McBride's, Thunder hole, and Prior Springs caves.
This will be an amazing time, and we are looking forward to meeting and caving with all of you.
